| Summary Abstract: | This paper presents the results of an study on the properties of Laterites, undertaken in the former Colonial Portuguese Provinces of Angola & Mozambique (now Angola and Mozambique), in order to assess their suitability, mainly, in the construction of roads and buildings. The studies were carried out at the laboratories of Lisbon (Portugal), Luanda (Angola) and Lourenco Marques (Mozambique). This report provides a general description of the Laterite Material, Lateritic Soils & Lateritic Terrain, Origin of Laterite, Lithological Classification, Distribution of Laterites, Composition & Physicochemical Characteristics and Geotechnical Properties of Lateritic Materials. Notes on the potential applications of the lateritic materials for roads and buildings construction is included in the text. The report is in Portuguese with summaries in English and French. |
