| Summary Abstract: | This Memoir 5 -The Soils of Karamoja District- forms part of a set of 6 Memoirs of the Series 1 (Soils) of the Research Division. The other Memoirs of Series 1 are: M.1: An Introduction to the Soils of the Uganda Protectorate; M.2: The Soils of Eastern Province; M.3: The Soils of Northern Province; M.4: The Soils & Land Use of Buganda; and M.6: The Soils of Western Province. This Memoir 5 presents the findings of a Soil Survey of Karamoja, which was initiated at the end of 1955, with the purpose to depict on a map the different types of soils occurring in the District; the 26 map units are mainly soil series. The Memoir includes the profile description of 43 dominant soil series with their analytical data and a summary of their potential agric. land use. The Memoir is accompanied (in a back-cover pocket) by 3 maps, at 1:1,000,000 scale (Geomorphology, Land Use & Erosion) and 2 Soil Maps at 1:250,000 scale (Northern & Southern Karamoja).
