Summary Abstract:This map is a part of early soil and vegetation surveys which were carried out prior to Ugandan independence, in October 1962. These surveys were undertaken by staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, Research Division, during the period 1959-1960. The Ministry was at that time an active force in the assessment and development of the land resources of the Uganda Protectorate, in preparation for the forthcoming independent from Britain. The reporting is within two series. Series 1 is a set of six soil survey memoirs based on the regional administrative units at that time, such as Buganda, with the one overview volume entitled, An Introduction to the Soils of the Uganda Protectorate (#400). The archive holds three copies of these reports for areas such as Eastern province (#25143); Northern Province (#41863); Buganda (# 407); Karamoja (# 47643); and Eastern province (# 41864). The purpose of Memoir 1 is to present an overview of the work of the Soil Survey of Uganda: see WOSSAC Blog
