The Internet represents a powerful means to present spatial information and offers the ideal means to disseminate the mapping resources held in the Wossac archive. There is a growing movement in Europe and worldwide to adopt standards-based interoperable mapping tools that allow datasets from different sources to be combined and used together. We are exploring these approaches, and in particular the Web Mapping Service (or WMS) standard from the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

Presented below is a map created in Google Maps that is drawing on a WMS data feed. The map shows a soil survey conducted in the Falkland Islands in the 1800's.
